A.) Some advantages he encountered with Spanish was that he felt more connected and bonded with his family because it is the language they all grew up with. Some of the disadvantages were that he felt alienated by the church and by his peers because he wasn't fluent in English and he became insecure about it. With English, the advantages were that as he grew he was able to understand his peers more and communicate with them better. The disadvantages were that as him and his family had to start speaking English, he grew more distant from them and from his culture.
B.) My brother faced a similar situation when he first arrived to the United States. He came here not knowing a bit of English and his peers at school would make fun of him because of it since he barely knew the language. He was able to overcome it because he learned the language more and more as he grew older. He was able to become fluent in English while still preserving his Spanish and not straying from the culture.
C.) Knowing another language is an asset to me because I get to meet more people and be able to socialize with other Spanish speakers. It helps me communicate with various cultures and I'm not limited to only speaking to English speakers. For example, I'm able to bond with my family who lives in Colombia because they don't speak any English.
